Lance Cook - Parent Rep:
I feel privileged to be elected for a further term on the Pukerua Bay School Board of Trustees. For me it is simply a continuation of striving to meet the school's vision of developing confident & inspired learners at the school. I'm also very keen that the school is family inclusive, strong on communication and has the environment & resources that can deliver the vision.
I am married to Mary, have three gregarious daughters all of which are attending Pukerua Bay School. I currently work with Direct Broking Limited, a DIY sharebroking firm that is part of the ANZ National Bank. To keep the stress levels to a minimum I enjoy the outdoors and I'm usually spotted enjoying the spoils of the green belt areas of Wellington on my mountain bike or struggling to keep up with the girls in all their enthusiasm.
Mike Thomas - Parent Rep
My name is Mike Thomas and I was elected as parent rep to the BoT.
Being a part of the Board has built on my feeling of connectedness with the community and school. These are very interesting times in education. It is my hope that I can support the school to work through any governance issues to ensure that our children continue to receive an excellent and broad education.
My partner Rachel and I have three children at our school.
Professionally, I work as a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour based in Kapiti.
I can occasionally be seen around Pukerua Bay running (slowly) with my dog or coaching children's sport.
Ian Cowan – Chairperson
Hi, I'm Ian and I'm the current Chairperson for the Board of Trustees. My kids are Louis, Violet and Charlie. I'm married to Tracey. We live on school side of Pukerua Bay overlooking the sea.
I've been in "the Bay" for 3 years now. People ask me what brought me to the Bay in the first place. Truth is, I'm not sure. I guess it was a pretty nice house with a good view. But it's this community that keeps me here. And Pukerua Bay School is at the very heart it. It's for this reason that I joined the Board; the belief that I can contribute to the community through the success of this school.
I hope that I can use my skills in business and technology to help develop the school, the teachers and the students to be the best it can be, for the benefit of this community. In my worklife I run an IT consulting company which helps public organisations (Ministries, Government Departments, Local and Regional Councils and the like) to manage their information more effectively. I hope this experience helps me in by Board role; it certainly teaches me to navigate difficult situations, to plan, to motivate teams and to set stretching but realistic goals. All these are factors needed to be on the Board.
I'm looking forward to playing my role in the development of this school over the next couple of years and beyond.
